Principal designer role on Myers’ new Huddersfield concrete plant
Paul Feely & Associates acted as the Principal Designer on a major new concrete batching plant project in Huddersfield for long standing client Myers ReadyMix.
This was a multi-million-pound investment into a new, state of the art facility designed to serve high volume commercial, civil, and industrial construction projects across Yorkshire.
With the capability to produce up to 120m³ of concrete per hour, this facility marks a significant boost in regional capacity. Built in partnership with global equipment leader Liebherr, the plant was designed with efficiency, safety, and long term reliability in mind.
About the Client: Myers ReadyMix
Myers ReadyMix, part of the wider Myers Group, is a trusted supplier of ready-mixed concrete with plants in Huddersfield, Brighouse and Skipton. They have been serving Yorkshire’s construction industry for over 60 years and are known for their commitment to quality, service, and innovation.
Their new Huddersfield plant was designed to:
Ensure continuous, accredited concrete supply
Minimise operational downtime with Liebherr systems
Deliver greater mix consistency, speed and safety
Our Role: Health & Safety Built into the Design
The key to the success of this project was early engagement.
Myers brought us in at the pre-construction stage because of our track record delivering complex, high risk projects in the concrete industry. That early input allowed us to shape the plant’s design and build process with health and safety embedded from day one.
As Principal Designer, we worked closely with:
Myers’ internal project team
The principal contractor
Engineers and subcontractors
Liebherr equipment specialists
This was not a simple installation, the project involved:
High risk machinery and moving parts
Complex lifting operations and heavy cranage
Temporary works planning and sequencing
Multi-trade coordination under strict timelines
Safety and Design Considerations
Our scope of work included:
Safety-led design reviews
RAMS planning and support
Design input into access, guarding, and plant layout
Planning for lock-out/tag-out and maintenance safety
Integration of operational safety into the final design
We ensured that once operational, the plant would meet the highest standards of:
Operator safety
Ease of maintenance
CDM Regulations compliance
Zero-harm design principles
The result? A facility that’s not just productive, but safe and sustainable.
Working Alongside Industry Leaders
This project brought together two highly respected names in the construction and concrete sector Myers ReadyMix and Liebherr.
Liebherr brought market leading engineering and batching systems to the table
Myers brought local knowledge, operational experience, and a commitment to safety
We ensured that both were aligned through clear communication, practical planning, and full CDM coordination
Outcome
This concrete batching plant in Huddersfield was delivered:
On time
On budget
With zero incidents
And with long term safety embedded in the design
It now supports the delivery of concrete to infrastructure, commercial and housing projects across West Yorkshire, and stands as a benchmark in construction health and safety collaboration.
